Binge Report: Warehouse 13
Welcome!
In addition to our reviews, here at Infinity Sisters are officially introducing our Binge Report which will focus on our favorite shows. We have quite the long TV list we have acquired and with every new show, the list only gets longer, but we are slowly picking away at it. One of our top shows on our list is the old Syfy treat "Warehouse 13" which focuses on a group of federal agents that handle a top-secret warehouse in which they track down and neutralize dangerous artifacts. Ever since the show first aired on Syfy, it's been something we've longed to watch. It came at a time that fell around shows such as "Eureka" and "Alphas" with the shows even featuring appearances from various characters (and actors in other roles).
Our Favorite Episodes:
1.) Claudia
We typically love pilots and as much as we enjoyed this pilot, it's not one of our favorites of season 1. The introduction of Claudia is what really made this team what it becomes. She was the missing piece that brought "Warehouse 13" completely together. Not only does she go onto become the future caretaker of the Warehouse, but she's also the heart of the team and surrogate daughter to Artie.
2.) Duped
We love all the unique takes on the various artifacts that are represented primarily by real-life historical figures. This episode is also the first introduction of Alice and the Looking Glass which are both seen a few more times in the show's run. The Warehouse's take on Alice is a unique twist that takes strongly to heart the idea of madness.
3.) 13.1
This is the first crossover with "Eureka" through the visit from Fargo who is a main resident on the other Syfy show. We greatly enjoy crossover episodes and love how much Syfy used to love doing those during this timespan. It's also humorous to see Fargo and Claudia, both of whom are deeply interested in technology, spend some time together taking on certain problems in the Warehouse.
4.) Where and When
One of our favorite things about season 2 is the introduction of HG Wells which is done entirely differently and with a fun gender switch. HG in this case is a woman whose brother used her inventions for the basis of his books (and his fame). She's also a grieving mother who lost her young daughter and was eventually bronzed by the Warehouse regents. In the episode prior to this one, she was reinstated as an agent for the Warehouse and is still experiencing trust issues (except Myka). This episode takes a unique spin on time traveling and Cinderella with Myka and Pete traveling back in time to temporarily possess the bodies of former agents in order to get their eyes on Cinderella's knife. The knife had the ability to turn people into glass and was being used by a serial killer. It's different and we loved every second of it.
5.) The New Guy
Meeting Steve Jinks is a great delight! He's a recurring character for season 3 before eventually being promoted to the main cast. The comic relief is always top-notch on the show and even better when Pete is struggling to accept that Myka has left the Warehouse, only to be saddled with a new partner (who is also new to the Warehouse). Jinks was a needed addition to the show and rounded out the family.
6.) The Greatest Gift
This is the second Christmas special for the show and one of our favorite episodes. The episode twists events into an alternate reality that finds Pete seeing what the Warehouse would have been like without him. It takes inspiration from "It's a Wonderful Life" and does it well.
7.) We All Fall Down/The Living and the Dead
These are technically two episodes, but they serve as two-parters in terms of information and events happening. Artie was revealed to be the "evil" that he unleashed when he turned back time and his master plan was shown to be releasing a dangerous disease called the Sleeping Sickness. Artie was saved but not before the sickness was unleashed into the world and this saw a race for the characters to find a cure. This is the first introduction of James Marsters as the Count.
8.) Endless Terror
Another alternate reality episode and we're all in for it. To stop Paracelsus' master plan, Myka and Pete must travel to the world he's created in his own image and put things right. This episode also sparks the final chapter of the series.
9.) A Faire to Remember
One part of the episode finds Claudia working to wake up her sister while the other part follows Peter and Jinks as they go to a Renaissance Faire. It's a great balance of the emotional and the humorous. Claudia's discovery of her sister being alive is an emotional core for the character so it's always emotional seeing her working to wake her sister up. Then the other half of the episode provides much-needed humor as Pete is all for the Faire and is immediately invested in dressing up and having fun while Jinks is determined to keep on the mission.
10. Endless
We appreciate the ending (though wish the show would have continued for many more seasons) in that it celebrated every character even Leena and HG. It's getting close to the time for the Warehouse to move locations and to a new host country which means all the current agents would be retiring so that other agents take on their jobs. This results in a variety of reactions from each of the characters with Pete being the most outspoken about his feelings. Each character got to see what their special moment with the Warehouse is and Jinks even got to see the moment that was Leena's. The end was bittersweet but nice to see Claudia in her future role.
