Weekly TV Reviews: Batwoman s2 ep4

This episode was a powerful one in terms of both writing and Ryan's journey as Batwoman. This week found Ryan facing a traumatic experience from her past which ends with a child saved and her ex-girlfriend makes an appearance at the end. This episode so far is a favorite of ours here at Infinity Sisters and we hope to see more episodes written up to this standard of excellence.

Thoughts:

1.) Flashbacks

Ryan's flashbacks add a vulnerability and strength to the character while also adding to the power of her voice. The flashbacks also feature a heartbreaking and powerfully commentary moment when a young Ryan watches a search group handing out flyers for a little girl - which turned out to be a girl with fair skin and blue eyes, not her. So much is said throughout this episode during flashbacks and during the present that makes it so loud a voice that everyone should watch this episode. The flashbacks also give a look at a significant person from Ryan's past who was there for her when she needed someone the most.

2.) Present Day

The present-day finds Ryan facing a jarring memory from her past as she confronts the moments head-on and rescues a child as she's at it. When a little boy sets off an alarm at a store to get Batwoman's attention, Ryan takes the case of searching for his missing older brother which takes her down dark memory lane to find the woman that took her as a child is still at work. The episode ends on a powerful note when Ryan (as Batwoman) stages a rescue which also includes a rescue of Jacob who was taken by a gang as part of an initiation. A moment that stands out is when Jacob asks Ryan how she knew she could find the boy there, she responded simply that she looked.
