Weekly TV Reviews: Nancy Drew s2 ep2
Welcome to our Drew Review!
Last week, the show picked up where season one left off with Nancy and her friends facing off against the Agleaca who is rather determined to kill them. This latest episode continues with Nancy's ghostly and parental dramas with Nancy facing ghosts and two fathers determined to make things right. When Nancy solved the mystery of Lucy's death, she learned a painful secret about her own origin. She discovered that she was Lucy's daughter and Ryan Hudson is her biological father. This revelation is a major catalyst for the character's arc and creates a weight on her shoulders as she keeps pushing away processing the information to work on not dying at the hands of the Agleaca.
Episode 2 "The Reunion of Lost Souls":
1.) Meeting Nick's Mom
The families of our favorite Drew Crew have been heavily explored throughout season one except for Nick's family who lives out of state. It was nice to see Nick's background more when his mom came to visit. Before now, we've seen the family situations of each character with Nancy's two dad drama, George's unavailable mom, Bess' strive to meet her family, and Ace's relationship with his father. Nancy's drama has been the biggest with the truth putting her between two father relationships that are both strained and she's not sure how to navigate either one. George's mom is heavily not involved which has put George as the sole responsible one to care for her three younger sisters. Bess started season one as being secretive and reserved until she finally opened up, dropped her fake American accent, and came out about her true connection to the powerful Marvin family. Ace and his father have a slightly tense relationship at times, but it's also one that has a lot of love and shows Ace feeling responsible for looking after his father. These connections have deepened each character so seeing Nick's mom was a treat and added more to what we know about Nick. It's always important for characters to have familial ties and background even if strained or non-existing so to see why the characters have ended up where they have.
2.) Nick Chooses to Stay
Nick has made a place for himself in Horseshoe Bay as a business owner and in his relationship with George. The first season started out rocky with his relationship with Nancy as her trust issues and his secrets brought tension between the two until the two weren't together romantically anymore. Though the two characters are a major part of the books, the change was a great decision for the show as Nick and George have proved to be the stronger couple. Nick's mom shows up with an agenda to get her son to return home which brings the two toward an emotional confrontation. George also gets to take another step in her relationship with Nick by meeting his mother and proving to her just how fierce and protective she can be which ultimately wins her over.
3.) Ghosts of the Week
The ghosts of the week come with a connection to the Agleaca and give the Drew friends a little more insight into what they're up against. In an eerie twist, a few of the ghosts have been seen throughout season one when Nancy thought she was seeing living people. Nick becomes the primary target for the ghost out of the hour as he looks like a friend of his from the past. This storyline and the arrival of Nick's mother brings about several BLM moments that are poignant and emotional, using very little to see quite a lot. The ghosts are important to the Agleaca arc as they were her previous victims who made a deal they couldn't keep their end of and eventually ended up being killed.
Overall, "Nancy Drew" continues to be one of our weekly TV obsessions here at Infinity Sisters Reviews and we're excited to see what each week will bring.
Happy watching!
