Weekly TV Reviews: WandaVision Ep 3

Welcome!

The end of episode 2 came with a shocking twist - everything is now fully in color! The change in color also comes with a change in decade with them going from the 1960s into the 1970s. The episode finds Wanda and Vision dealing with the surprising reveal that Wanda is pregnant and the pregnant sure is speedy. By end of the episode, Wanda successfully delivers twin boys who are named Tommy and Billy. The episode also finds Geraldine slipping up by mentioning Pietro's death at the hands of Ultron and ultimately thrown out of the town.

Episode 3 "Now in Color":

1.) Into the 70s

We are now in color versus black and white with a new decade to play with. The style of the house, the clothes, and the color scheme are all representative of a 1970s sitcom. The humor is spot-on with Wanda trying to hide her sped up pregnancy when Geraldine comes for a visit. The moments find her having power blips that cause her to create a bird, change coats, and having to hide all these changes from being noticed. Some of the funniest moments in the show are in this episode (so far) with Wanda hiding behind a bowl of fruit, having to attempt to shoo away the pelican as it tries to eat the fish on Geraldine's pants, and mask that her coat keeps changing. The humor is added to as Geraldine seems largely unable to notice the changes. Ultimately she gives birth to two boys and what should be a happy occasion turns into an ominous foreshadowing.

2.) First Memory

This episode also comes with the first real reference to the events of the MCU. Wanda mentions having a twin brother only for Geraldine to slip up with asking Wanda about how he was killed by Ultron. Until now, no mention is made in regards to anything that came before West View so this reference hints that perhaps Wanda remembers at least partially about who she really is. We're enjoying the writing of "WandaVision" immensely in how it creates mystery and suspense by surrounding it with humor and sitcom homeages.

3.) Darker Undertones

The show continues to have ominous and dark undertones that are treated as breaks in the sitcom reality. These started out small and are slowly picking up as even the doctor utters lines like "small towns - so hard to escape" and neighbors Agnes and Herb telling Vision that Geraldine isn't from around there. While we don't see what happens when Wanda confronts Geraldine, we do see what occurs after - a seemingly normal Wanda looking at the twins just before Geraldine is seen being thrown through an invisible wall on the edge of town.
