Weekly TV Reviews: Nancy Drew s2 ep 7
Missing girl, talks of college, haunting. Nancy is getting into a new routine working for her dad when three girls show up to ask for her help because they think their friend was taken by a ghost during a hazing event. While the girls were making their friend stay alone in a haunted hotel room, they never expected to hear her in distress or to find the room empty when they opened the door. Elsewhere, George struggles to deal with her haunting and Ryan is looking into the jumpdrive that Nick gave him for proof to take down the Hudson patriarch.
1.) Nancy Back in School?
We love that Nancy and Carson are back on good terms and that she's even taken to calling him dad again. She's officially starting as an investigator for her dad though it's not as glamorous as she thought it was going to be as she's tasked with delving into financial documents to help with a divorce case. This brings on talks about how she once wanted to go to Columbia for college. She doesn't seem interested in the idea of school when he first brings it up but then she has a heart-to-heart with the missing girl on her spiral away from the college path. "No college wants this version of me." Nancy unloads on the girl only for her to call Nancy out on having survived all she has only to still solve a mystery and tells her that who she is now is what matters.
2.) Welcome Back Bobbsey
In their process of searching the hotel for the missing girl, Ace and Nancy are brought to the hotel by the three girls. Ace has a moment with Amanda Bobbsey who works at the front desk. We know that Gil and Amanda are meant to show up in more episodes so we're excited to see them return and to see where their story will go. For some help, Nancy turns to Amanda which sets the stage for Ace to show up with his computer skills and a moment with Amanda. This show has put a fresh spin on classic characters so we're loving the idea of seeing how they go about the Bobbsey twins that makes them different and no doubt have a ghostly twist.
3.) Ghost Abduction
Nancy, despite her knowledge of ghosts, was a little skeptical about the girls' claim until she tries to open a hotel window and blood pours down instead. We love seeing an Ace and Nancy team-up as their friendship is such a sweet and genuine connection since the beginning. Ace is a constant rock of support towards his friends. Ace gets put on keeping an eye on three college girls which leads Nancy to call in Bess and George for their back-up. Bess, George, and Nancy find a secret passageway in the hotel room that was once a servant's entrance and go into the dark tunnels that run within the hotel. The episode takes a turn when they found a cabinet that has blood and tapes leading them to suspect that maybe the ghost stories were just a cover-up for a living killer. This leads to the discovery that the whole thing is a hoax, not ghosts or a murderer, as Nancy puts together that the tapes were sound effects and the blood came from a butcher shop. A shock comes in the case when they find George on the tape which seems to come as a surprise even to George.
This episode feels like a classic Nancy Drew book only with a modern twist with them running through secret tunnels, hoaxes, and secrets. This episode doesn't feel entirely ghost-related which is a change from previous episodes that have been entirely focused on fighting ghosts. Though Odette did have an appearance through her possession of George and helped send Nancy to find the missing girl at the bus station.
