Hallmark Spring Fling: One Perfect Wedding
It's time for a wedding and it's not even June!
One Perfect Wedding is the follow-up to One Winter Weekend and One Winter Proposal. Cara, Ben, Megan, and Sean are back! The last we saw them Cara and Ben were getting engaged and now a few years later, fans are getting to see their wedding day! Cara's success with her new book and his schedule have made things complicated to get a date set. Their complicated schedules could provide some conflict with Cara's international book tour taking her away for two months and Ben's trip to Asia coinciding. This leads to a radical decision to go ahead and get married BEFORE things take a complicated turn.
Their walk down to the courthouse is interrupted by Cara's father calling which sends her into a series of doubt about getting married without her dad walking her down the isle. It's not too often that Hallmark revisits their previous movies so it's nice to see this duo of movies becomes a trilogy with a conclusion. Dreams are coming true but is it too much to make a marriage work?
Ben and Cara are each facing decisions in their careers which seems to be setting them up for a certain crossroads with their relationship. If we had to predict this early on, we'd say this is already setting up for the dark night of the soul. With Sean is out of the picture, Ben asks his sister to be his best woman while Megan has the job of maid of honor for Cara. Zoey, Cara, and Megan team-up to search for the ideal wedding dress. Back to where it all started at their favorite ski resort where they even have the same place booked which brings everything full circle.
Megan is missing Sean who is off saving people and wishes for something more solid than their long distance relationship. Omen alert! Cara discovers that the owner of the resort and his wife may not have made their marriage work which sets up a mystery element to the movie while also putting another notch in the dark of the soul that will soon be approaching. The movie is setting up Cara's doubt in getting married with every turn she takes igniting the flames of her suspicions about Ben keeping secrets. The movie seems to be focusing on cold feet, doubt, and secrets when faced with an upcoming wedding day and marriage. Ben's secrets, even for the good, may be flaming her doubt which could create a problem for the wedding actually being pulled off.
The legend of Max and Clara with Cara predicted that the two went their separate ways with one being a recluse and the other off to start a new life. Her negativity in seeing their relationship could be festering in her own relationship and shows her mindset. We're loving the use of her dad in this one with her turning to him about the mystery of Clara and Max. One of our favorite scenes is watching her and her dad trekking through the snow as they search for the original owner's cabin. While they might not find the cabin, they do find a bench that used to be on the porch and has initials carved into it. Meanwhile, Ben is trying to buy the resort to save the snowboarding camp which sets up another mystery as he's trying to track down a shell corporation that has ownership. The use of both mysteries will no doubt lead back together with both mysteries leading to one answer.
Friendship is a strong component in this trilogy with the relationship between the four main characters being a constant element. The two couples started out as two pairs of strangers and now they're four people that have found friendship, love, and a future. Part of each movie has also been the evolution of both couples with Sean and Megan's relationship steadily growing along the way. Even though Sean is socially distancing away, he's still a vital part of the story and the wedding which in our current world it's nice to see that he hasn't lost importance.
No Hallmark movie is complete without humor and One Perfect Wedding is no exception. The humor comes through the mishaps they experience such as falling over when trying to get pinecones and flubbing up when trying to help with a long-distance proposal. Just as they were expecting a gorgeous engagement ring to be in a box sent by Sean, they discover it's the wrong box that put a quick end to the romantic proposal. A game of trivia though adorable, we feel that this will further Cara's own doubts about her upcoming wedding. Though, after he finally opens up to her about getting the resort, they team up and learn that Goldie that works there is actually the daughter of the mysterious Clara and Max.
Time for disasters. First, the weather comes into play which makes the couple decide to get married right there. Then disaster number two comes in the wrong color of dresses which was overlooked after Megan failed to look at her phone. After a few disasters and trials, the two of them are finally at the altar and get married. The happy couple then has one more plan up their sleeves when Cara shows up to get Megan for some snowboarding where she's to descend onto her and Sean's spot where Ben and Megan's mom is waiting with him on video chat. Perhaps there will be a fourth one where we can see Megan and Sean get married. Wink, wink Hallmark.
