Weekly TV Reviews: Nancy Drew s2 ep12

The episode features more of the Bobbsey twins with two new couples, a trip to an island, a battle for control, and the continued moves against the Hudson family. Their attempts to rescue a little girl don't go quite as planned when dangerous spirits follow her home and refuse to let her go.

1.) Island Adventure

Nancy and Gil have started seeing each other and the duo is taking their first official date on the water to Moonstone island. This isn't exactly a safe trip but Nancy is determined to help Carson's client and clear her reputation. While Nancy has started things up with Gil, Ace and Amanda also started seeing each other. The episode gives a further look at the Bobbsey twins up close and personal with their lives and their bickering. This leads to Ace seeing Nancy at Gil's and more of Ace not being thrilled with this idea.

Their trip doesn't go off smoothly as Ace, Amanda, and Nancy discover blood splatters and keep hearing a strange noise in the woods. The trio finds a campsite and an injured girl who declines help for her leg because it will take her back to the island. The girl they found is soon discovered to be a girl presumed dead five years ago and a dead bird later, they discover the girl has an evil attachment to her. Fire souls are attached to her and are determined to protect her, no matter who it's from. Nancy attempts to level with the girl by telling her that the fire souls were responsible for the death of her parents in the hopes that they can get rid of them. She returns the girl to her family only for red flags raise for us when Nancy gets a card from the uncle and learns that he works in boat repair. Nancy, ever the sleuth, works with Amanda and Ace to realize that the ghosts didn't cause the boat crash and this will no doubt lead right back to the uncle.

An interesting side note, Amanda asks Ace if he ever hooked up with Nancy because she felt a vibe and this no doubt will open up all the minds of every shipper. It's too soon to tell if the show will ever explore the potential of Ace and Nancy, especially with the Bobbsey Twins, but definitely creates an interesting question of what if.

2.) Nancy's Backlash

Her retract of her testimony has consequences for Carson, but it's Nick's investigation that hinders the most. She currently says she's still on Nick's side and is taking a breather to figure out her next move as she's working to get inside the Hudson family. Her backlash with her testimony is thrown back into her face when she tries to tell the police about the sabotage of the boat and gets shoved out the door. She's struggling to gain back her reputation which we predict will be spread throughout the upcoming episodes. We know that with her skill set and her curiosity, Nancy will be able to gain back her image, and hopefully, she can gain back the full trust of Ace who is still not happy with her current choices.

3.) George vs. Odette

Odette and George are vying against each other for space with the French ghost rearranging her home and her business. George has been going against the ghost for multiple episodes as they work to figure out how to share a body while leading separate lives, especially when one is dead. This subplot has had a mix of humor and heart as Odette has been a hilarious inclusion to the story. The role of Odette is a great use of comedic timing, but her story is one that has tragedy, pain, and heart that adds to the show. The struggle between the two is a constant pull with them now communicating with George talking to Odette's reflection.

The episode also lightly touched upon Bess's growing feelings for Odette who has agreed to respect just being friends. Though, we have a sense that this won't be a storyline that goes away too soon. Nick also begins to figure out what to do with his apartment building which involves creating a safe space for teens in trouble. On the downside, Nancy wants to hope that her grandmother can change which will not end well in the long run.

Quotes:

"I've been consumed with all the ways you've taken over  my life -" George
"Improved your life." - Odette
