Weekly TV Reviews: Batwoman s2 ep14

The episode picks up where the last episode ended with Alice realizing that she found her sister when she meets her eyes. On the bright side, she's earned her freedom though she chooses to stay after realizing that her sister is right in front of her even if Kate has no idea. Elsewhere, Ryan continues her fight against Black Mask by taking out his minions one at a time. The night ends with her finding a cannibalistic churchgoer which is a rather disturbing moment.

1.) Zombies in Gotham

A benefit is being held at the bar which is quickly disrupted when the cops showed up after a "noise complaint." The cop gives her the ultimatum of shutting the fundraiser down or pay the fine. Luke tries to defuse the situation while Ryan refuses which leads to both of them being immediately arrested. Sophie comes into the bar looking for Ryan when she confronts the cop still there and confronts him which leads to her being sent to the same jail cell as Ryan and Luke. While they're in prison, the zombie infection seems to be spreading as the latest victim is doing his best to fight the urge to eat people. He may have let a woman go but the cop that tries to help him is attacked by two random people that jump him.

Elsewhere, Jacob is forced to confess to Mary about his addiction to Snakebite. Just as she's confronting her dad, the zombie-infected guy comes in for help and immediately handcuffs himself. Out of everyone in Gotham, we feel for him. He's genuinely trying to not hurt anyone. Yes, he took Snakebite, but he's not actively looking to harm someone. One of the things we love is seeing Mary in her doctor element which is always a plus. She's a strong-willed character that is brilliant and compassionate so we live to see her in her element. She has a good heart and it's one that has given her strength.

Sophie and Ryan are forever at odds over the Crows, failing to see eye-to-eye over their use. Sophie expresses her belief that black people should be in positions of law and that she wants to be a light for little girls to see themselves and what they can be. The moment between the three in the cell is a strong moment that speaks volumes and adds a great commentary to everything happening in society. The only good thing about their cellmate is that they finally get to learn about the zombie uprising happening throughout the city. Any show set in Gotham tends to get dark no matter the network it's on but it's still disturbing to see cannibals attacking people in their cars. Luke and Ryan go back to the Batcave while Sophie takes on the Crow new guy who lives to push her buttons. Mary figures out a way to cure the infected but it requires Ryan to get up close and personal with them. Ryan watches the Crows gun down all the victims of Snakebite despite Sophie telling them to hold fire. The upside is that the zombie outbreak allows Mary and Jacob to have an honest conversation and for him to see how great she's doing in her clinic. Ryan manages to save one zombie and the cop from earlier. The events finally have driven Sophie out the door after the Crows gunned down the infected victims which is a choice that seems to offer an olive branch from Ryan.

2.) Alice's Discovery

Alice is next seen with the therapist hanging from the ceiling while she vents about the discovery of Kate being alive and with no memory. Despite everything she's seen, she has full determination to get her sister's memory back. She goes to retrieve something of Kate's and finds Ocean there waiting for her. So far, we're enjoying the inclusion of Ocean because it opens a vulnerability for her that allows her to be vulnerable. Nothing ever ends well in Gotham but we're enjoying it why it lasts. Just as Alice seems to be getting somewhere, Ocean snaps the therapist's neck before she can tell her the key to getting Kate's memories back. Their dynamic is one that is complicated and all over the place but it's opened a new layer for Alice so that will always be a win. The two lovebirds hit a roadblock with the death of the therapist leading to Ocean declaring that he loves her and his insistence that he doesn't want her to get Kate back.

The episode ends with Luke moving to stop his brief cellmate from stealing a car only for the Crows to show up and the man points the finger at Luke. He moves to get his phone out to show the new Crow evidence when he's instead gunned down. The promo for the next episode shows Luke being wheeled into the hospital.
