Weekly TV Reviews: Charmed s3 ep11

The episode recap hints that we'll be seeing Abby this episode and the fight between her two sides. The last episode found the sisters determined to cure the allergy no matter what it takes. This episode picks up with the sisters underground in Turkey. One breath is lethal. The sisters have to keep masks on as they search for a relic that supposedly will break their allergy but this could also potentially cost them their lives.

1.) Breaking the Allergy

The episode opens right into their search for the relic which turns out to be an egg in the hands of a long-dead creature. Before snatching the egg, they devise a plan to replace the egg with something of equal weight after discussing their worries that removing it will turn the tomb into an Indiana Jones movie. They were almost right as getting the egg seemed to awaken the creature or some misty element of it. Maggie has continued to work on herself by talking to a therapist and trying to keep all magic out of the equation. The egg is ready but the side effects are still unknown. While they get to have relationships and hug each other, we know it's just a matter of time when they realize what those side effects are and everything they've done could go down the drain. One explosion later and the sisters are able to touch each other without a zap sending them apart.

With the allergy broken the sisters have never been happier, looping their arms as they walk through the house and Harry making them all breakfast after a kiss good morning from Macy. Mel takes her job as a cousin seriously with advice to Josefina about planning what comes next in her life. For two all-powerful beings, the silent couple is so funny with their monotone deliveries and their lack of understanding about the world. Harry has his own surprise in store for Macy who comes all dressed up to meet him after her meeting and the two make their way to Paris, France. Mel's life is looking up with the new dean telling her they would be lucky to have her full-time as a professor while Maggie speaks with her professor about her idea that she hopes will land her an internship.

It's adorable to see Harry and Macy having the best day of their life in Paris which is full of romance and even an upgraded room. Their upgrade doesn't last long when they hear an elderly couple wanting to stay in that room for their anniversary and give up the room so they can have it. This encounter seems to plant another seed of doubt for Harry which we think that it's setting the path for either a break-up or Harry finding a way to strip away his powers. If we can pick one, we'd rather go with the latter one. Josefina, meanwhile, uses a potion to get hold of a rare book. The good luck with the sisters seems to have downsides with random strokes of bad luck like professors snubbing Mel when she tries to greet her. Another random stroke of bad luck, Maggie catches the sight of other students sobbing which leads to the discovery that Antonio (her nemesis) has been in a car crash while Harry and Macy discover the reason that the couple won't be staying in their room. If we had to take one guess, this string of bad luck is caused by them breaking the allergy. They quickly catch on that these are the side effects and will probably drive the sisters to put the allergy back into place.

Josefina finally gets her powers which is her dream come true but if she has the same luck as the sisters then something bad will follow. That bad comes quickly when Josefina refuses to let them take her new power away from her, even going so far as to tie them up with vines. They get through to her by reaching out as a family while the sisters go to the couple for help getting their allergy back because they won't have their wishes come true at the price of others. They return the egg and the allergy quickly returns which shows the conviction of the sisters to choose others over themselves. We love seeing Josefina growing into herself and getting her power, but we're sad to hear that she's returning home. We only hope that she'll return. She gifts the sisters with the Book of Shadows which she had been working to add more to. Harry shares an idea with Macy about him becoming mortal so they can grow old together while the three sisters struggle with their own downsides to having the allergy back.

2.) A Tale of Two Sides

Abby wakes up looking a little worse for wear as she struggles to remember the night before. Her demon side is literally trying to kill her human side. This has created a literal battle between good and evil within herself. While the sisters are having the best day ever, Abby's demon self makes her way into their home looking to destroy them. A gust of wind knocks her into the door which seems to jar her human self back into control. She goes to Jordan for help binding her powers before her demon side can win. Jordan helps Abby bind her powers which receives resistance and a burned symbol into her neck just before she disappears. We aren't sure what is up with Abby and who could be after her but we are curious to see where this storyline is going. Abby wakes up to find herself alone in her apartment which quickly sends her to Safe Space and concludes that this is a sort of mental trick. Maggie tries to contact Jordan but she's unable to reach him and then he's shown trapped within Safe Space where we lost saw Abby and sporting a mark similar to her's on his neck.
