Weekly TV Reviews: Charmed s3 ep12

The last episode ended with Abby and Jordan taken, and Harry announced that he wants to become mortal. Tonight's episode picks up where that left off with Abby trying to figure out where she's at and attempting to break free only to be trapped in the Tomb of Chaos' infinite loop. It would seem that Macy wasn't entirely on board with Harry becoming mortal since she's obsessively trying to find a way to heal the allergy and taking the failures out on books. After the bad luck of the last episode, it's nice to see their lives back to the not-so-normal with Maggie's nemesis back from the hospital with a miraculous recovery after his car accident.

1.) Becoming Human Again

Harry's thrown himself into trying to figure out how to become human again. He's turned to the power couple and the explanation leaves us feeling like Harry is making a deal with the devil. He has six days to decide if he's to become human again, but this is not an easy decision. Mel and Maggie are supportive of his decision but Macy is not exactly thrilled with the idea. Mel accompanies Harry on a trip to England to see his son only to discover that his son was now dead. All is not lost when Harry meets his granddaughter and poses as a distant relative. When there's one problem, there's twenty more such as losing soul softeners at a funeral. Mel gets to meet Harry's granddaughter and her wife which lets her discover that George, the bratty kid at the funeral, is another descendent. His grandson's soul has detached from his body and turned him into a little gremlin monstrous creature.

2.) Calling Mom for Help

While Mel and Harry take a trip to England, Macy and Maggie come up with a plan to talk to their mother who they think may have had a promotion about the allergy. In doing so, the spell backfires and Maggie ends up possessed by a ghost that isn't exactly happy with their spell. Turns out that Maggie is possessed by Roger and his teenage daughter Daisy which creates quite a dilemma for Macy to figure out how to fix. Daisy doesn't seem to have any problem with having a chance at the body. It's learned that the recipe box of their mother once belonged to the ghost duo possessing Maggie and that's what created the mix-up. The downside of the double visitors is that Antonio showed up to return a wallet, saw Maggie with two personalities, and then the ghosts knocking him out. Macy has a heart-to-heart with a ghost and learns that Roger took Daisy from the dance which led to their deaths in a car accident. Antonio, unknowingly, helps Daisy find peace and move on by letting her finish her last dance. Just when they seemed to be at a loss, Maggie steps back into the circle only this time the ghost that possesses her is their mother. Macy also hits a roadblock when it turns out that her mother didn't have a promotion instead she's just wanted to give them motherly advice.

Harry and Macy have two very different actions in this episode with the same goal of being together. He's trying to become mortal and she's trying to break the allergy. The season has allowed them to be together but has also shown the complications of them being six feet apart. They're not the only couple struggling with a (not so) long-distance relationship. Mel and Ruby have also not gotten the chance to truly explore their relationship as the allergy prevents them from getting too close.

3.) Trapped

Abby is desperately trying to break herself free from her prison which includes her mother. She's not thrilled to see her mother but the Tomb seems to be tapping into her psychological state and her issues she has with her mother. Her mother kicked her out when she was just sixteen. She confronts her mother in this prison where she faces her own past and the guilt she harbors. She's trying to fight back against the prison but it's doing the best it can to break her which unveils several explanations for the Abby we see today. She's been marked as a villain since day one so it's a nice change to see the reasons for her behavior and to see a vulnerability to her. It shows her as more human than we've ever seen her before. The bright side is that Maggie caught on to the fact that Abby and Jordan are missing when she went to Abby's apartment looking for him. The downside is that Abby gave into what the Tomb wanted.
